Sneaker of the Week - PUMA Clyde

Sports lifestyle brand PUMA® has partnered with legendary culture brand, Undefeated, to launch the Undefeated (UNDFTD) Collection with PUMA, a special collection centered around one of PUMA’s most iconic and celebrated styles: The PUMA Clyde. This long term project will make Undefeated a true design partner with PUMA, designing a collection of PUMA Clydes that will be released beginning in April and

throughout 2011 and beyond.

The partnership between PUMA and Undefeated is about pushing boundaries and refreshing a classic style and icon, The PUMA Clyde. Undefeated and PUMA explored trends in the marketplace and collaborated to interpret these fashion and lifestyle nuances into footwear styles that are inclusive of both brands. The first release from the collection will be on April 10th followed by another release on June 10th, and many more throughout 2011 and beyond. Consumers can expect to see clean lines and a unique exploration of materials and textures.

The PUMA Clyde was chosen for this project not only for its significance to the PUMA brand, but also to sneaker history and pop culture. Customized for basketball great and current announcer for The New York Knicks Walt “Clyde” Frazier in 1973, the Clyde was the first signature basketball shoe. Built on performance and style, it immediately became a mainstay on the court and on the street. As a statement shoe, it was part of the uniform for cultural artists – DJs, b-boys, musicians and graffiti artists. With its clean and classic styling, the PUMA Clyde continues to be on-trend today.

Sneaker of the Week: Converse New Chuck Taylor Sneaker

Converse debuts new version of the Chuck Taylor All Star Leather Jacket sneaker with Schott leather.

With deep roots in American style and culture, the Schott NYC jacket and the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe have led somewhat parallel lives. Converse began in 1908 and Schott in 1913 and as the part of the 20th Century unfolded, Chuck Taylor All Star shoes were unveiled and quickly became nearly ubiquitous in American life. Not long before Chuck Taylor added his name to the already then famous All Star shoe, in 1928, Schott unveiled the first motorcycle jacket ever. Named the “Perfecto”, by the 1950s, the jacket had become a symbol of the new rebellion that was taking hold with the burgeoning teen culture that arose after the War.

Referenced in classic film and television— the uniform of the rock and roller, the hoodlum and the rebel often wore a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes and a black Schott Perfecto leather jacket. Likewise, as the punk rock movement swept the streets of downtown New York City and beyond, a Schott leather jacket and a pair of Chucks became synonymous with the scene. Today, both Schott and Converse connect with the American spirit and represent the individualism that both brands have embodied throughout the decades.

Mating the original motorcycle jacket design with the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe, Converse and Schott developed a sneaker that showcases the best of both labels, including heavy-duty rear zip entry, zips under the laces and a patchwork of motorcycle jacket leather. Further details include quilted lining, snaps on the tongue, a leather rand, and the Schott label sewn discreetly inside the shoe.

Sneaker of the Week: PUMA Mid Vulc

PUMA sportlifestyle introduces a new classic, with clean, simple and streetstyle in mind.

Aptly named the PUMA Mid Vulc; the style is inspired by the PUMA Archive’s original 1970s -1980’s PUMA Mid, yet refreshed on a vulcanized sole.

In true PUMA fashion, the Mid Vulc unifies on trend design, form and function. Especially created for those who like to make the street their playground, it is a durable, easy to wear and ride sneaker in leather, ripstop nylon and suede.

Accompanying this premium, clean looking style, is a limited run of PUMA custom laces featuring a metal aglet with silver cat detailing, which compliment the silver foil logos on the shoes. Each set of laces comprises of 1 x black set and 1 x white pair to give the wearer the choice to go tonal or add a pop of contrast.

Working in association with Goodone, (www.goodone.co.uk) both pairs of laces come in an authentic hand made bag made with recycled off cut PUMA Archive fabric. The bag is also an ideal size to be a digital camera/ipod/iphone case.

Not for sale there are just 250 special edition PUMA Mid Vulc laces and bags in circulation in the UK only.

In no doubt a desirable streetwear staple, the PUMA Mid Vulc in black and white colourways are currently available exclusively to select PUMA independent trainer boutiques nationwide, retailing at £55 rrp.

Top 25 Sneakers in 2009 - Part II

Continue from earlier post last week, here are the next 8 pairs of coolest sneakers designs ranked by Sneaker Freaker in 2009. Do give your comments whether these are also your choice.

Nike Supreme Bruin

After previously working with Nike on some successful, high-profile collaborations, New York-based retailer Supreme put its spin on the Bruin, Nike's first low-top basketball shoe, which debuted in 1972. The line comes in four basic colors, but the ultra-white model with metallic red pops is the one that ascends to the top 25.

Vans HUF Old Skool LX

Too often, classic is just another word for boring in the sneaker world. These kicks avoid that rap. Although the shoes are plain, intriguing details such as bricolage canvas, a suede upper, an embroidered Vans stripe, and repeating triangles on the foxing made the Old Skool one of the year's best.

Adidas Jeremy Scott Collection

Sometimes the sneaker lovin' community lacks humor, but no one would say that about designer Jeremy Scott. His collaboration with adidas this year (one in a long history) is a stunning four-model ensemble of lunacy and silliness. One shoe has three tongues; another, giant golden wings, while others have tassles, studs, and snakeskin.

Nike Presto

The '09 Presto remained true to its stylish roots, with the plastic-spined lace system once again taking center stage. Unlike its eye-popping, multitoned predecessors, the shoe's solid color schemes caught people's attention this go-around.

Converse UNDFTD Poorman's Weapon

Los Angeles store Undefeated has consistently styled sneakers with panache using a touch of military flavor. Released as part of its War Is Business campaign, the Poorman's Weapon featured a flight-jacket nylon upper, property tags, and removable Velcro logo patches. The black edition sold out in minutes, and the green wasn't around much longer.

Nike ACG Ashiko Boot

Named after a ninja's favorite weapon, the ACG Ashiko boot is made with Flywire, Nike's proprietary lightweight yet sturdy thread. Sneaker Freaker's editors were so impressed with the shoe after taking a pair hiking, they quickly plastered it on the magazine's cover.

Reebok Proper Dual Pump Runner

This pair of kicks represents the joint efforts of Reebok and Proper, a boutique in Long Beach, Calif. With PlayDry lining, memory foam, and a 100% synthetic upper, they are one of the world's first vegan runners. Even the glue was free of animal innards.

Adidas Kazuki ObyO Collection

Japan's Kazuki Kuraishi had worked for style dons such as clothing line A Bathing Ape and Fragment Design, a design house that has collaborated with such heavyweights as Rolex and Disney (DIS:US), but it was his adidas line that brought him international recognition. The line's KBALL mid-tops in rich black leather with eggplant laces are understated. Also, the slender Kazuki branding on the tongue is a tip-top top-off.

So again, stay tune with the last part of Top Sneakers in 2009 - Part III.

Sneaker of the day: Adidas Porsche Design S2

Unquestionably street savvy, this Porsche Design shoe revs the engines of the fast and the fashionable. With clean lines, a unique heel counter, seat print patterns and top stitching, all that's missing is four wheels and a gas pedal.

A first glance to this sneaker is like a gold sneaker and without taking a look at the outsole. The Adidas Porsche Design S2 can be your own personal luxury vehicle that will fit your feet and your personality to .

On closer inspection, the Adidas Porsche Design S2 sneaker appears to be more of a driving shoe that promises to provide you hours of driving fun. If you do a lot of pedal and metal pushing, then keep your feet comfortable with this pair of sneakers.

The Adidas Porsche Design S2 comes in a white upper, white tongue, and white laces. It is accented by the black Adidas three-stripes, which is modestly displayed on the side panel as a proud reminder of the brand.

The midsole of this driving sneaker is a mix of black and white. The black sole has the metal Porsche Design emblem. Look under and you will see an ebony undersole with the unique white stripes design and the words Porsche design prominently displayed below that.

The only drawback was lack of arch support. But then again, I didn't go for the comfort, instead the unique design.

A small Adidas logo is displayed on the heel of the show. This sneaker is a great companion for all-day driving at less than $100.

Top 25 Sneakers in 2009 - Part I

For more than a century, athletic shoes have been basically the same. Yet every year, such companies as Nike and adidas produce thousands more designs, but which are the most welcomed and popular designs? Find no more, Sneaker Freaker, one of the world's foremost shoe magazines, has teamed up with Business Week, bring to you the top 25 sneakers of 2009. Here they are:-

Supra Skytop II

The original Skytops were so popular, the sequels had a lot to live up to. Sneaker fans weren't disappointed. The updates have a fancier level of paneling, a super-tall tongue, and a stunning gradient color scheme.

Currently available in Amazon with price tag of $103.99

Saucony Shadow 6000 Varsity

The Saucony Shadow 6000 may not get proper respect from sneaker lovers—it lacks the decades of heritage marketing of other classic shoes—but to some that only enhances the appeal. Saucony's grid cushioning system makes these shoes especially comfortable, and the simple color schemes are a minimalist's dream.

Puma Solebox R698 Light Ups

One of my favorite design. A modern twist on the classic R698 runners, these kicks feature Puma's bouncy Trinomic soles and light-up laces that blink when you start moving à la LA Gears from the 1980s. The light blue and pink touches are also 1980s send-ups.

Vans Taka Hayashi Collection

Vans' collaborations this year brought much fanfare, but its partnership with Japanese-American Taka Hayashi was the collection that really caught the eye of aficionados. Adopting American-Indian stylings is hardly new, but Hayashi delivered a fresh tweak to some old classics, riffing on the Akat, Velocita, and No Quarter models.

Adidas House of Pain Campus 80

Adidas classic design, contributed by Danny Boy O'Connor, a member of hip-hop's House of Pain. Elegant touches such as the gold lettering on the side and green and orange heel flourishes reflect adidas' handiwork, and the emerald green suede and clovered tongue patch were typical House of Pain-style Irish tributes.

You can find this classic design in Amazon  at only $56.99

Adidas Ransom The Never Ending Path

Another of my top pick design. Teamed up by Canadian retailer Ransom and Adidas to create this footwear collection born and bred for the outdoors. The ruggedly handsome exteriors are composed of sleek suede and lack adidas' iconic triple stripes. With the original sneaker generation growing up and out of their training wheels, these mature kicks found an eager audience.

Louis Vuitton Kanye West Signatures

At the very same time Nike dropped the Yeezy with Kanye West, another footwear project arose—this time matching West with designer Louis Vuitton. Surprisingly, the shoes deftly mix the styles of both. The $1,000 price seems outrageous, of course, but not to collectors who routinely spend four figures on exclusives and rarities.

Stay with us for the Part II of Top 25 Sneakers in 2009.
